Etheria: Restart Review

Etheria: Restart hit me pretty hard in the best way when I first booted it up. Looks great, characters are cool, and within the first few fights I could already tell the combat had more going on under the hood than your typical mobile gacha. Then I kept playing and realized it’s one of those games where the fun stuff is genuinely fun, but some real issues keep dragging it back down.

The combat is the main reason I’m still here, honestly. It’s not just about having the strongest characters — turn order matters, team comp matters, knowing when to buff versus when to burst matters. There’s actual thinking involved, which is refreshing. A lot of gacha games pretend to have strategy and then just reward whoever spent more money.

Etheria isn’t fully innocent of that, but the foundation is legit. PvP especially goes hard. The draft and counter-pick system means the match starts before the match starts, and I love that. When you predict what your opponent is bringing and build around it and it works, it feels great.

The presentation is doing a lot of heavy lifting too. The cyber-fantasy world looks slick, animations are clean, and the premise is genuinely interesting — humanity uploading their consciousness into a virtual world after Earth basically died. That should be a compelling story. Emphasis on should be. The actual writing doesn’t do the concept justice. I kept waiting for the narrative to grab me and it just… didn’t. The dialogue washes over you and the main character has the personality of a loading screen.

And yeah, the grind is relentless. You WILL feel it if you miss your dailies. The energy system won’t let you binge even when you’re in the zone and actually want to play more. It’s the same treadmill every gacha game runs on and Etheria does nothing to make it feel less exhausting.

Look, the game has a high ceiling. The PvP depth is real, the combat is fun to learn, and the world has room to grow into something special. But right now the story is a weak point, the monetization has some eyebrow-raising moments, and it asks a lot of your time for what it gives back.

Come for the PvP and the team-building, stay for the combat — just don’t come expecting a game that’ll blow you away with its writing or respect your schedule.

I would give this a 7 overall.
