Resonance Solstice is a real-time trading RPG that blends card-based combat, train management, and gacha mechanics into a unique experience. You play as a newly graduated train conductor who takes command of the Eternal, a locomotive that travels between cities and outposts across a post-apocalyptic world. Despite its setting, the game has a surprisingly vibrant and adventurous tone rather than a bleak one.
The gameplay revolves around two main pillars: trading and combat. Trading is at the heart of the experience, allowing you to buy and sell goods, accept shipping contracts, and transport passengers and cargo across the rail network. Like any good trading system, success comes from buying low and selling high. Managing your finances is important, as it’s easy to spend heavily on train upgrades and find yourself short on funds for weapons or other essentials. The more efficiently you earn money, the smoother and faster your progression becomes.
There is no open-world exploration; instead, travel occurs in real time as your train moves between settlements along established rail routes. During these journeys, you’ll encounter optional activities such as recovering lost luggage, completing side objectives, and fighting monsters. Stamina management is also an important consideration while traveling.
The game’s combat and gacha systems are closely connected. Crew members are primarily obtained through the gacha, and each one contributes unique cards and abilities to your battle deck. Combat takes place in side-scrolling encounters featuring chibi-style versions of your crew. The game is surprisingly generous toward new players, providing a solid start when it comes to acquiring characters.
Each crew member brings five or six cards to battle, and your team’s deck is built from the combined cards of all five selected characters. You can designate one character as the team leader, allowing their ultimate skill to function as a powerful leader skill that can shape your overall strategy.
Visually, Resonance Solstice is impressive. Its anime-inspired art style is beautifully executed, the world feels full of personality, and the soundtrack gives every journey a cinematic quality. The animated cutscenes scattered throughout the story further enhance the presentation, particularly during major narrative moments.
The story is engaging and provides enough intrigue to keep players invested, although some sections can feel slower than others. The cast is one of the game’s strengths, with each character possessing a distinct personality and charm that helps bring the world to life.
Overall I would give this game an 8. It is an intriguing mix of styles that seem to blend together fairly well.
